What is EDGE: 

EDGE is the Local Portfolio Management System (LPMS) used by Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts Health) & Queen Mary university of London (Queen Mary) to collect, manage, and organise data related to all clinical trials and research studies conducted at Barts Health and Queen Mary. It serves as a central platform for maintaining oversight and ensuring effective coordination of research activities across the organisation. 

Barts Health and Queen Mary, through the Joint Research Management Office (JRMO), are using EDGE as their Local Portfolio Management System (LPMS). EDGE supports the capture of clinical trial data, tracks research recruitment activities, and underpins the delivery and ongoing management of research activity across both organisations.

This document defines the responsibilities of JRMO staff and Research Staff when managing research study information, documentation, and governance processes. It sets out the required standards for recording data in Barts Health’s Local Portfolio Management System (EDGE), ensuring that all entries are accurate, consistent, and fully aligned with R&D procedures. 

The user guide and videos intend to demonstrate the ease of navigation of the system (EDGE) and what the Research Staff are responsible to complete when using the system. The aim of the user guide/videos is for instructional purpose only to be followed by the Barts Health and Queen Mary Research Staff. Topics that are not covered in this user guide can be found in the support section of EDGE where you can access a wide range of online guides covering how to use EDGE.  

The EDGE familiarisation video April 2025 demonstrates how to navigate EDGE and use the common pieces of functionality used by Barts Health and Queen Mary Research Staff.
